Franz Kainberger is Deputy Chief of the Division of Neuro- and Musculoskeletal Radiology, Director of the Core-Unit of Teaching in Imaging, and Medical Director of the Computer assisted Imaging Radiology (CIR)-Lab at the Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image- guided Therapy, Medical University of Vienna, Austria. His main research interests are in the field of musculoskeletal radiology (focusing on rheumatology, sports medicine and orthopaedic oncology), in computer-assisted imaging, and in radiation protection. He serves for national and international scientific societies, holding significant positions, among which President of the Austrian Society for Radiation Protection (ÖVS), and of the College of Physicians of Vienna. He is currently Immediate Past President of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR) and Chairman of the Radiation Protection Subcommittee of the European Society of Radiology (ESR). He published over 200 scientific papers in international and national scientific journals and more than 50 books or book chapters as an author or co-author. He held various positions in scientific journals, such as co-editor of the CME section for “Der Radiologe”, editorial board member and section editor for imaging of the “Wiener klinische Wochenschrift – The Central European Journal of Medicine”.
